Job Title: Kennel Technician
Location: Aloha Ilio Rescue – Keaau, Hawaii
Position Type: Full-Time 
Reports To: Kennel Manager or Operations Director

Position Summary:

Aloha Ilio Rescue is seeking a reliable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Kennel Technician to join our team. Kennel Technicians play a vital role in the day-to-day care of rescued dogs, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being in a clean, nurturing environment. This position is hands-on and requires a strong work ethic, empathy for animals, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced rescue environment.

Key Responsibilities:

​

Animal Care:

  • Provide daily care for all dogs including feeding, watering, exercising, and socializing.

  • Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report concerns promptly to management or medical staff.

  • Administer medications and treatments under the direction of veterinary staff or the kennel manager.

  • Assist with bathing, grooming, flea/tick treatments, and other basic hygiene practices.

  • Support enrichment activities and positive reinforcement training to enhance adoptability and mental well-being.

 

Kennel & Facility Maintenance:

  • Clean and sanitize kennels, play yards, common areas, and feeding stations according to established protocols.

  • Wash bowls, bedding, and toys; assist in laundry and general upkeep of the facility.

  • Follow biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of illness or disease.

 

Transport & Intake:

  • Assist with intake and documentation of new arrivals, including basic assessments and recordkeeping.

  • Safely handle dogs during vet visits, transfers, or offsite events, as needed.

 

Recordkeeping & Communication:

  • Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, behavior, and other relevant notes using shelter software or forms.

  • Communicate clearly with team members and volunteers about individual dog needs and concerns.

  • Support potential adopters, fosters, and visitors with basic information and introductions to dogs (as assigned).

 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in animal care, kennel work, or shelter/rescue setting preferred, but not required.

  • Genuine love for animals and commitment to compassionate care.

  • Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments safely and respectfully.

  • Comfortable working around cleaning chemicals and in outdoor/indoor settings, sometimes in inclement weather.

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.

  • Reliable transportation and punctuality are a must.

  • Team player with a positive attitude and strong communication skills.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Shifts may include weekends, holidays, and some evenings depending on operational needs.

  • Full-time position available; hours vary based on staffing and animal intake levels.
